Philharmonia

Spencer MartinAttention Fall 2014 First-Year/Transfer Students: Auditions for Philharmonia happen during Orientation Week at the beginning of the Fall Semester. Please consult the Orientation Handbook and look at Appendix II for specific dates and times. Excerpts of pieces are sent out for most of the instrumental ensembles.

The Luther College Philharmonia is a 70-member symphonic ensemble that performs regularly on campus in concert.  Recent repertoire has included Beethoven’s Egmont and Coriolan Overtures, Copland’s An Outdoor Overture, and Dvorák’s New World Symphony, and Ginastera’s Dances from Estancia.  Recent concerts have also featured faculty soloists Du Huang and Xiao Hu, piano; Richard Tirk, trumpet; Michael Smith, trombone; and Karen Kanakis, soprano.

The Philharmonia is directed by Spencer Martin.

Auditions for Philharmonia are held annually.

Philharmonia rehearses MW 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Thursday 4:15-5:15. Rehearsal location for Philharmonia is in the Sperati Band Room.
