Seong-Sil Kim, a native of Korea, is Adjunct Professor of Piano at Luther College. She is currently completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa, where she is studying with Dr. Uriel Tsachor. Having begun her studies at the age of four, Seong-Sil then continued at the Yewon School and then the Seoul Arts High School, where she studied with Eui-kyong Erica Ohm, and eventually earned her Bachelor’s and Master's degree from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, where she studied with Yon-Boh Cheung, Wonmi Kim, and Soojung Seo. She also studied at the Adamant Music School, Vermont, and at the National Music Festival, Virginia.
Ms. Kim has won numerous awards, including the Seoul Music Festival Competition, the Hanguk newspaper competition, and the preliminary competition for the Asia Chopin International Competition. She also received many scholarships in Korea and most recently was the recipient of an Iowa Performance Fellowship, the institution’s highest honor.
Ms. Kim has participated in numerous performances, both as a soloist and collaborative pianist in the United States and in Korea including in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, Bucheon, and Seoul. Recently she was invited to perform in the Adamant Music School Annual Concert at Weill Recital hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She also performed at the Opening Gala Concert of the National Music Festival in Floyd, Virginia. She has also been a pianist at the University of Iowa Dance Forum and at the University of Iowa Dance Department.
