2017 Dorian Orchestra Festival Schedule

Sunday, February 5th

11:00-12:30 Registration in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Check in, turn in release forms for each of your students, pay any fees due, and pick up Dorian badges at the registration table. Collect housing assignments at the housing table. 

11:00-12:30 Dorian Chamber Orchestra Seat Placement Auditions. Sites in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music to be announced. Audition times will be assigned when students register.

12:30-2:45 First Rehearsals. Chamber Orchestra with Dr. Eugene Dowdy in the Orchestra Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Festival String Orchestra with Dr. Daniel Baldwin in the Main Hall, Center for Faith and Life (CFL). Breaks will be given at conductors' discretion.

1:00-2:00 Directors' Sharing Session. Visiting directors are encouraged to meet in the lounge next to the Orchestra Room in Jenson to get acquainted, to share ideas, music, and solutions to common problems. Please bring along 5-6 scores of music that have worked well for you and that you would like to suggest to your colleagues. 

1:00-2:30 Lessons, Solo Reviews, Masterclass Auditions, and Scholarship Auditions with members of the Luther Music Faculty in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Please be outside your scheduled studio FIVE MINUTES early. DO NOT FORGET TO BRING MUSIC FOR YOUR TEACHER. (Students scheduled for private lessons should leave and rejoin rehearsals quickly and quietly)

3:00-3:45 Techniques Classes I. Class sessions led by Luther violin, viola, cello, and bass faculty members, dealing with issues specific to each instrument or string section. The classes are required for students and strongly encouraged for directors.

3:45 Report to CFL.

4:00 Concert: Luther College Symphony Orchestra (CFL)

Following the concert, students staying on campus meet their Luther hosts in the Orchestra Room to move into dorm rooms.

6:15-7:00 Dinner. Meals are available in the Cafeteria ($10.75), Marty's Cyber Cafe in the basement of the Union, or off-campus venues.

7:00 Superbowl Party, details TBA 

Monday, February 6th

7:00-8:15 Breakfast. On your own. Student Cafeteria ($7.10)

8:30-10:00 Rehearsals. Festival String Orchestra will rehearse in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life (CFL). Chamber Orchestra will continue in the Orchestra Room in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

8:30-10:00 Lessons, Solo Reviews, and Scholarship Auditions with members of the Luther Music Faculty in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Please be outside your scheduled studio FIVE MINUTES early. DO NOT FORGET TO BRING MUSIC FOR YOUR TEACHER.

10:20-10:55 Techniques Classes II. Second sessions led by Luther violin, viola, cello, and bass faculty members. Topics will be different from the Sunday sessions. The classes are required for students. Directors are strongly encouraged to attend. 

11:15-12:15 Attendance required for all students.

1:30-4:00 Rehearsal. Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Room, Jenson-Noble

5:20-5:40 Concert Soloists' Rehearsal. Main Hall, CFL

5:00-6:30 Dinner. On your own. Student Cafeteria ($10.75) and Marty's will be open. 

7:00-8:30 Festival Grand Concert. Main Hall, CFL. Free admission. Concert apparel: All black OR black bottoms with a white top.
