High school string students are invited to participate in the Dorian Orchestra Festival. Students are placed in one of two orchestras: the Festival String Orchestra or the select Chamber Orchestra. The Luther College Symphony Orchestra performs for the festival participants during the weekend. Student soloists may be selected to perform at the festival concert, along with the two festival orchestras.
In addition to ensemble rehearsals, students will also participate in two instrument specific techniques classes, led by Luther College String Faculty Members. On Monday, these same faculty members will lead a masterclass session on each instrument, with masterclass participants chosen from students who are taking a private lesson during the orchestra festival weekend.
Students also have the opportunity to receive a 20 minute private lesson from a Luther College faculty member. This lesson can be used as an audition for the Monday morning masterclass session. Students in private lessons may also choose to be considered as a concert soloist on the Monday evening concert. Lastly, this lesson may serve as an audition for a music scholarship for those seniors interested in attending Luther College. If students are interested in auditioning for a scholarship in voice or another instrument while on campus for the Orchestra Festival, this may be arranged by calling the Admissions Office at 563-387-1287.
Registration is now closed for 2018. For the 2019 Dorian Orchestra Festival, you can expect registration to be open from early October to late November.
