I wasn’t tired. I couldn’t sleep.
The deadline was looming, and I kept refreshing my iPhone screen to see if it was posted.
At 12:20 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013, it was there. The nominations for the 2013 Upper Midwest Regional Emmy® Awards were posted! I scrolled down as fast as my fat thumb would allow, and two-thirds down the document under Category 28 was our program:
Christmas at Luther: Tidings of Comfort and Joy - Twin Cities Public Television
Wow. Another nomination: what does this mean? At the very least, this means we will have more Emmy® swag in the form of a gold-embossed rosewood plaque that will decree we were happy to be nominated. Or, the better scenario, we will now have TWO Emmy® statuettes to display on campus. I am so proud of all our students, staff, and faculty of Luther College, as well as everyone from Twin Cities Public Television, who made this past year’s Christmas at Luther such a huge success.
Friday at work was a flurry of Facebook posts: some very vague at first (actually garnering some angry replies from friends as the purpose or outcome), and then the planning of the actual posts with pictures and links and facts (Oh my!). I spent the rest of the day looking at all the Luther pages and checking the notifications that were dinging in constantly. I was also replying to all my friends asking if the big news involved adopting a baby (the aforementioned “angry replies”). Well, no, unless you count the possibility of another Emmy® statuette as “adoption.”
What have I learned from this? Well, take a look at this list:
- how to use the “®” symbol easily on my laptop (opt-R on a Mac!)
- how to promote a post on Facebook (thanks Kate!)
- how to resize a photo on the Luther website so it’s not distorted (thanks Travis!)
My other big realization is that I am now halfway to my EGOT of nominations. What’s an EGOT you ask? It’s when someone wins all four awards: Emmy®, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. With CAL, I get my Emmy® nom, and with Dale Warland Singers I earned a group Grammy nomination for Walden Pond. We didn’t win the Grammy, so now it’s an honor just to be nominated. I guess now I need to be a part of a project that is both on the Silver Screen and on the Great White Way in order to secure my Oscar/Tony noms. Something to ponder…
Until then, the big day for the Emmy® awards banquet is slated for Saturday, September 28 in downtown Minneapolis at The State Theater. I’ll be waiting next to my iPhone with bated breath for a text message from one of our TPT friends who will give us the verdict.
