Wind and Percussion/Varsity Band Concert

The Luther College Varsity Band and Wind and Percussion Ensemble will present a fall concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus.

Varsity Band will perform "Suite on Celtic Folk Songs" by Tomohiro Tatebe, "Appalachian Overture" by James Barnes, "Prelude and Celebration" by James Curnow and "Beguine for Band" by Glenn Osser.

The Luther College Varsity Band includes about 100 students. The band appears at a variety of events through out the year including chapel services, a Family Weekend performance, a Dorian Band Festival performance as well as its own formal concert each semester.

The Wind and Percussion Ensemble will perform "Lindbergh Jubilee" by Frank Bencriscutto, "Portrait of Freedom" by Steven Reineke, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" by Steve Rouse, "Rest" by Frank Ticheli, and "Manhattan Beach" by John Philip Sousa.

The Wind and Percussion Ensemble is a group of 50 select band students, determined by audition. In addition to Family Weekend and Dorian Band Festival performances, the Wind and Percussion Ensemble gives a formal concert each semester.

Luther College Varsity Band and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble are directed by Joan deAlbuquerque, Luther associate professor of music and director of bands.
