The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Chamber Orchestra will perform Symphony No. 3 "The Camp Meeting" by Charles Ives, awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music. The orchestra will also Overture to "L'Italiana in Algeri" by Gioachina Rossini, known for its opening of slow, quiet pizzicato basses, leading to a surprising burst of sound from the full orchestra. The "surprise" shows Rossini's early admiration for Joseph Haydn. The orchestra will perform Haydn's Symphony No. 104 in D major, the last of the 12 "London Symphonies," and Haydn's final symphony.
Chamber Orchestra specializes in works for small orchestra and mixed chamber ensembles ranging from the Baroque era to the 20th century. The Chamber Orchestra performs with the Luther Opera Workshop in alternating spring semesters.
