The Luther College Concert Band and Jazz Orchestra will present a spring showcase concert at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on Luther's campus. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Those unable to attend may view the concert live online at stream.luther.edu/music.
Luther's Concert Band with 60 musicians will perform works by John Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Bach, John Philip Sousa and more. Joan deAlbuquerque directs the Concert Band. Appointed director of bands at Luther College in 2011, deAlbuquerque has toured with bands throughout the Midwest, western United States and Israel. Concert Band will be touring Spain from May 23 to June 3.
Twenty students perform in Luther's Jazz Orchestra. Their program will consist of pieces by Duke Ellington, Harry M. Woods, Hank Levy, and other prominent composers. Jazz Orchestra, which has toured in Brazil, Dominican Republic, and Colorado in recent years, is directed by Juan Tony Guzmán, director of the jazz program and professor of music at Luther College.
