The 55-member Luther ensemble ranks among the country's outstanding college bands. It performs all types of wind literature, including several premiers of new music.
The Luther College Concert Band was one of the nation’s first music organizations to tour nationally and internationally. It continues that tradition with annual performance tours that have taken the group coast-to-coast in the continental United States, twice to Hawaii, six times to Europe and five times to Japan and East Asia.
Conducted by Joan deAlbuquerque, Luther professor of music, the Luther Concert Band has performed at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York City; Tivoli Garden, Copenhagen, Denmark; and the Bergen International Festival, Bergen Norway. It has been selected to appear at many state and national music conferences, and has made numerous appearances on public television and radio.
Luther, a selective four-year college located in the scenic bluff country of northeast Iowa, has an enrollment of 2,500 students. The college has a long tradition of outstanding instrumental and vocal music programs.
