| List on and off campus activities and leadership experiences that are relevant to desired position (i.e. involvement in College Ministries at Luther, home congregation, camps, and other ministries): |
I was involved in church council at my home congregation for 3 years during high school, serving as the youth representative. I've been actively involved in my home congregation's youth group ever since my first year of high school, and I served as the president of this group for my last 2 years of high school. I'll be serving as a volunteer at the ELCA National Youth Gathering in New Orleans this summer as well. I'm currently employed by College Ministries here at Luther, and have enjoyed every minute of the work so far! I also attend Focus and Eucharist here at Luther on a regular basis, and am in a T.R.E.C. group with Pastor Amy. I was also recently asked to give the sermon during a church service at my home congregation, which I gladly did! I'm a religion major, with a pre-seminary focus in hopes of devoting my life to ministry. |
| What gifts do you bring to the Luther Congregation and to the council? |
I'm a very organized and punctual person, which are always helpful characteristics in a council setting and in a position of leadership. I'm a very strong leader, and am completely comfortable working in groups in order to accomplish goals. My faith is a central aspect of my life, and I believe that through involvement in church council and any congregational setting, I am more capable of sharing my love for God with others. |
| As a spiritual leader, how do you nurture your spiritual life, individually and within the community? |
As a spiritual leader, it is important that I take time every day to thank God for the blessings in my life and reflect on my faith. Meditation is very beneficial to my spiritual life. Along with that, however, it is also important that I spend time worshiping with a community; this makes it possible for me to share my gifts and love with others, and for me to benefit from the talents and spiritual strengths of those around me. Praising God in a group can be some of the most cathartic and spiritually enriching experiences! |
| Please include a brief statement describing your goals, challenges and vision for the Luther Congregation’s ministry. : |
My goals for Luther Congregation's ministry include embellishing on the strong sense of community that currently exists; it's important that every student feels comfortable and welcome in our worship space. It's also very important for Luther Ministry to continue reaching out to every student, engaging them in meaningful ways that will positively affect their lives. As Deacon of Spiritual Formation, this goal would be easily accessible through the use of bible studies that allow students to discuss and grow in their faith both individually and as a community. My vision for Luther Congregation's ministry is that this group will continue to provide a safe environment for students to learn and grow in their faith and community with others. |
