| List on and off campus activities and leadership experiences that are relevant to desired position (i.e. involvement in College Ministries at Luther, home congregation, camps, and other ministries): | - 5 Mission Trip Experiences (participated and wrote/led devotionals for last couple trips) - Active involvement in home congregation, youth leader and often asked to give messages/help out with events. - National Honor Society President in High School - TREC participant - Regular church attendee at CFL and also back home at St. Mark Lutheran Church. - Participated in FCA in high school. - Engaged in biweekly meetings for a couple months with a local adult whose faith and biblical knowledge I greatly admire. These meetings were mostly Q and A sessions for my then floundering faith. Very inspiring and uplifting talks. |

| What gifts do you bring to the Luther Congregation and to the council? | I would bring a fervor to keep God first and foremost in my life. I want Him to be the center of my thoughts, my words, and my deeds. I would bring a dedication to efficiency and organization and a desire to learn and grow, making me a person that not only gives, but willingly receives because life is a two way street. I am also a dedicated individual who gives 110% to whatever tasks I take on. I am open to serving Jesus Christ in any and every way I can. | |
| As a spiritual leader, how do you nurture your spiritual life, individually and within the community? | Prayer and biblical readings have kept me spiritual here at Luther. I regard prayer as an integral aspect of my life, without which my life would certainly have taken a different course. I also highly value church attendance as a weekly spiritual recharge, and I value active involvement within the church and out into the community. Because of the feeling of deep joy I possess when I'm in a religious setting/group, I have come to truly believe that wherever Christians are gathered Jesus is present. Adding to this a joy for service, and church related community service activities can keep my faith strong for weeks, hence my love for Mission Trips and desire for missionary work in the future. Also, spinning the occasional poem or lyric through my head helps to keep my life focused on Christ. | |
| Please include a brief statement describing your goals, challenges and vision for the Luther Congregation’s ministry. : | My biggest challenge to this position is my lack of experience in the council. However, once I learn the ropes and become comfortable with exactly what the group's agenda is and areas of influence are, I believe I would be a greater asset to the group. Without any background in any of the aforementioned areas, I would venture to list a couple goals and visions I possess for this campus. I would like to see a campus much stronger in faith, a campus living its faith. I understand that people cannot be forced to participate in this utopia, so I would like to convince them using our strongest weapon, love. I would like to send our Christian students out in small groups to love our campus and show everyone what it truly means to be a God loving individual. I would only ask these people ! to wear Christian garb, but not to force their beliefs on them. By serving with a warm heart, people are going to come to envision Christians not as the snobby group, the elite class, but as a caring and kind community of action, members of an alive and functioning faith. I see door greeters and coffee tables. I see umbrella holders and friendly greetings, simple tasks to greatly improve the quality of life on our campus. I also believe that invitation and involvement are big for a faith community. We cannot simply be content with our Christianity, it is important for us to offer this life to others, most effectively through inviting others to come and share in the worship experience. During this worship experience, I also believe that many students, particularly those whose attendance is very minimal, would greatly benefit from seeing their peers involved in the worship. Perhaps this is more of a Focus activity, but I believe that many people think church is sitting in a pew and reading the bold print, but I believe that it is a mental marathon to engage fully and to feel every moment of the experience. It is hard for people to see the mental aspect of worship without seeing their friends participate in it through testimonials and more personal messages. |
