| What gifts do you bring to the Luther Congregation and to the council? | Because I have grown up with church as my "foundation," I feel comfortable and at home in the church setting. Yet, I benefit the Luther Congregation more through my personality than through my past experiences. I am, and always have been, a conversational and curious "ideas" person. I ask loads of questions and care about their answers. Because I love discussion and learning from others, I work well collaboratively and am creative in how I work with certain situations. I also have been born with a "leadership personality," which also prompts me to work well with others and accomplish tasks 100% with an assertive and optimistic attitude. In addition, I am extremely organized, which I hope will make meetings and events smoother for the council and for the congregation. |
| As a spiritual leader, how do you nurture your spiritual life, individually and within the community? | Within my home communities (both at Luther and in Minnesota), I choose to be a part of activities and organizations that are true to my morals, which will energize both myself and others. Through these organizations, I experience Christ's endless love through the people I meet and the friends I make. One of the ways I am able to best nurture my spiritual life is through talking with others - about faith questions, about classes, about challenges, and about "God" moments. By surrounding myself with loving and diverse people, my faith is both challenged and reinforced. Individually, I like to take time to journal and reflect on my spiritual life. While I like the intimacy of praying, I tend to open myself up to prayer more when I am doing something else, like listening to piano music or doing yoga. |
| Please include a brief statement describing your goals, challenges and vision for the Luther Congregation’s ministry. : | When I was a prospective student, I remember President Torgerson speaking to a group of us and saying that Luther is a place of finding one's identity, being challenged, and making a difference. This is what Luther Congregation's ministry needs to be about, as we add in "because we are children of God." My goals and hopes for Luther Congregation's ministry is that we can creatively explore what it means to be the Church as a collective unit and what it means to be a Christian in a world that opposes many Christian ideals. I plan to be a part of exploring who Jesus is for us, as we are challenged by contradicting messages in college and outside of college. I also believe that Luther's ministry is to make a difference to ALL by making known Jesus' amazing love and grace! through our words and actions. |
