Adam Meyer - Outreach

Class Year for 2012-2013: Sophomore
Home Congregation: Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Plymouth, MN
Position Nominated For: Deacon of Outreach
List on and off campus activities and leadership experiences that are relevant to desired position (i.e. involvement in College Ministries at Luther, home congregation, camps, and other ministries): I am a co-leader of HUGS with Katrina Hanson, I work as a counselor and lifeguard in LaGrange, TX at Camp Lone Star which is apart of the Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Association, I was the president of the planning committee for three years for my Youth Group in Minnesota in charge of planning events for 150 or more high school kids, and have served in various events here on campus such as CYF and Fall Fling.
What gifts do you bring to the Luther Congregation and to the council? I believe that I bring a strong sense of creativity and ambition to the Luther congregation. I enjoy challenging myself and setting out to make a difference in our Luther community and expanding that to wherever we go. I also believe that I have a unique ability to be able to serve on the council for multiple years seeing that I am only entering my sophomore year.
As a spiritual leader, how do you nurture your spiritual life, individually and within the community? I believe in having a strong foundation within the people that God has put in my life. That is what led me to Outreach in the first place. I think that in order to have a strong faith, I must be able to support my fellow Christians and be supported by them. I offer support through prayer, song, and friendship, and I do my best to surround myself with people who can help me in living a life in reflecting the light of God on everyone in my life.
Please include a brief statement describing your goals, challenges and vision for the Luther Congregation’s ministry. : I believe that in order for our congregation to grow in faith, we must prepare ourselves to testify our faith to others and be able to serve people that we meet while we are at Luther and in the future as we pursue a life through Jesus Christ. I think that Outreach is a foundational way to reach out to communities. It is my goal to reach out to people within the Luther community to share the love that we have and to prepare these students to work in the name of God in all that they do in the future. I see my challenges being pure awareness and making sure that the students on our campus know about Outreach and have ways to participate within each of their lives. This could include the utilization of social networking to gain assistance on outings from people who are unable to commit to being on a team but are willing to offer their gifts for a few hours on a weekend. I would love to see Outreach become a place where the leaders and role models of our congregation can come together to share experiences of how they shared God's love from week to week.
