A Very Merry Christmas from Nottingham

For the over two-thirds of Luther students who study off campus during their four years here, the world will never look the same again. Off-campus study is a life-changing experience, resulting in broadened perspectives, unforgettable memories, and a more comprehensive and nuanced view of the world.

Several Luther students pursue in-depth and immersive study by participating in semester and year-long programs off campus. These blogs are meant to help friends, family, and future Norse experience life alongside our students around the globe.

Hello Everyone!

Over the winter break many of us have been traveling around, exploring the United Kingdom or other countries. You have heard a lot about what Kelli and I have been doing, but we wanted to give you an update on what everyone is doing for Christmas! Here are some Christmas messages from around!

I’ll be spending Christmas with these two goofs (aka my parents) in Dublin. This is a picture of us in front the Tower of London a couple days ago.

While this picture is of Gabby and her parents in London, they will be spending Christmas in Dublin!

I am spending Christmas in London with my family. This is my family's first time in London, so we are trying to pack in as much touring as possible. We hope to go to Westminster for Christmas Eve Mass and then take a day trip out to the coast another day. The photo is from our first full day together touring in front of Buckingham Palace. Happy Holidays to everyone back home at Luther! XOXO

This year, my sister, my dad, and I get to experience a German Christmas in Nürnberg and Berlin with family friends Sigrid and Harald. Our celebrations so far have included Christmas markets with Bratwursts and Gluhwein, a German church service at St. Sebald's in Nürnberg, lighting the candles on the Christmas tree, and singing Stille Nacht and other German carols by candle light. We are full of Christmas spirit and very grateful to spend this holiday with family we don't see often. With family in mind, I would like to wish all of them around the world a very Merry Christmas. This includes my family and friends at home, my Luther College family, and my new Nottingham family. I'm thankful you're all a part of my life and we get to experience this world together. May the new year bring you peace and pleasant adventures! From Germany: Frohe Weihnachten!

Meghan & Kelli:

Meghan and I are spending Christmas in Nuremburg, Germany. Nuremburg has one of the largest Christmas Markets in Germany, and we have enjoyed spending time wandering the stalls. We’re wishing a very Merry Christmas to our families and friends back home!!

Merry Christmas from Steven and Anika who will be in London for Christmas!

For Christmas, I am lucky enough to be spending time with a friend’s family in Germany. I met my friend Hannah in high school when she did an exchange year during our sophomore year. We have stayed in contact since then and her family invited me their family Christmas. We decorated their tree, explored Kassel (the town they live in), went to a Christmas church service, and exchanged gifts on the 24th. I will meet the rest of her family over the next few days, but they do not speak very much English so I might have to use limited knowledge of the German language!

I will be spending Christmas with Karl and his family! We will be in London celebrating by going to Westminster Midnight Christmas Service and then having a nice little Christmas dinner. I hope everyone everywhere is having a Merry Christmas and spending it with the ones they love! Much love!

We all hope that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
