Welcome Dance: August 31, 2008 "Celebrate Community"
The WESTERN HOME STRING contra band will play in the CFL circle on Sunday evening to the delight of the first-year students. The local Moo-mobile will serve shakes, as well as pizza and lawn games to welcome everyone back to Luther. Sponsored by Wellness, College Ministries and Student Congregation.
Service Project - September 6-7, 2008
This involved 465 first-year students along with 37 Resident Assistants spending two hours at a time cleaning, sorting and stacking bricks taken from East Side Elementary School when it was demolished. Students had an educational session about the importance of recycling and reusing followed by a safety session before they headed over to the brick pile. The group moved TWO HUNDRED TONS in 2 days onto pallets after they had been cleaned. The bricks will be used at a later time for the building of an environmental house on campus.

Buddy Climb in the Dark September 12, 2008
The Legends Fitness Center climbing staff invite all students and staff to join them at the wall for a special opening from 7:30-9:00pm this Friday night. Try the wall for the first-time or reacquaint yourself with the thrill of adventure as you climb in the dark. Bring along your headlamps for an evening of fun. Food, friends and climbing - a perfect blend to the weekend.
Canoe trip:September 13, 2008 3:00 pm Wellness floors take to the Upper Iowa for an afternoon of canoeing and picnicking.
BIKE SHARE program has been moved to Preus Library. There are now 8 bicycles to check out for use in Decorah.
Frisbee Golf League: informal league on Sunday afternoons. Prizes given weekly to the winner by the Wellness Dept.

RAVE against Cancer: October 10, 2008. 10:00pm to 1:00am. Brunsdale Lounge.
Help with the cancer treatment of a fellow Luther student as we raise money throughout the night. Entry fee to the RAVE is $1. There will also be mocktails and jello shots: : 2 for a dollar; Root beer pong - $1 a play; Dollar Dance off - spare change and prizes given throughout the night. Co-hosts: Towers Halls; Wellness and Campus Ministry along with Hands of Love & Hope.
Adventure Race: October 12, 2008
Pick up a packet for this race at the Welcome Desk in the Union. This is a 90-minute canoe/kayak, 15-mile biking and 3 miles running race through the greater Decorah/Luther area. Race begins at 2:00pm.

Sustainability Day: October 27, 2008. Sign a contract on ways you can reduce your carbon footprint and receive a water bottle, reuseable bag.

Stress-Less Day - November 4, 2008
9:30am-1:00pm. Visit the main level of the Centennial Union and visit the displays on how to take care of stress. Chair massages will be available as will the LABYRINTH in the Sports Rec Center from 8:00-1:00.

7:00pm - Baker Commons "Should I rent, buy, or lease? Come to this session and speak with a realtor and apartment manager about 'housing on your own'. Bank representatives will also be on hand to inform you how to take out a loan. For many students the work 'budget' has a negative connotation. Instead of thinking of a budget as financial handcuffs, think of it as a means to achieving financial success. Learn how to take control of your finances by attending this session."

Cool-Aid - May 9, 2008
Co-sponsor with Alpha Phi Omega. Annual event held on the library lawn on "Reading Day". There will be a volleyball tournament, bands and inflatable's along with fair games to relax and celebrate the end of the year. 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Towers/Ylvisaker's Annual Cookout - April 27, 2008
Co-sponsored with Ylvisaker and Towers hall management. This event is available for all residents living in Dieseth, Miller or Ylvisaker Halls. This event consists of day-long activities which include the cookout, carnival games, tournaments, movie on the lawn and raffles.
SAPA Run/Walk - (Sexual Assault Prevention Awareness) April 23, 2008
Co-sponsored with the Social Work Association. This run/walk event will help the Luther and Decorah community understand the impact sexual abuse has on the community. Literature, short speeches and a mural depicting the ratio of women who be sexually abused in Iowa will be available before and after the race. All proceeds from the run will be donated to the Helping Services of Northeast Iowa's Domestic and Sexual Abuse Resource Center.

Bike Share - begins April 14th
Five bikes are now available for use by Luther students to use for their pleasure. Check out is at the Welcome Desk in Dahl Centennial Union. The bikes are available at no fee but there is a late fee of $10 if the bike is not returned by 10 pm the evening of checkout.
Relay for Life - April 11, 2008. Co-sponsored event begins at 6 pm on Friday night and continues until 6 am Saturday. Currently there are 32 teams signed up with over $7000 raised.
Mock Sexual Assault Trial: April 9, 2008
Co-sponsored with Northeast Iowa Community College, Helping Services of Northeast Iowa. A Luther student organized this event as part of her Women & Gender Studies major. The purpose was to educate our Luther community about issues of sexual assault and ways to prevent sexual assault in our community. Also performed a court room trial for local high school and Northeast Iowa Community College classes. Held in the Recital Hall of the CFL.
Badminton Night - Friday, March 28
Co-sponsored with Recreational Sports. Open invitation for all international students and friends to come enjoy a late afternoon round of badminton and feast on the cooking of their friends. 3-6 pm in the Regent's Center.
Blood Screening/HRA/Physician's Visit
March 20, March 25, April 3, April 8 - get free blood screening at the Health Service Use the results to fill out your HRA and then take the results to your physician's visit. Faculty/staff only.
Positive Body Image Week - February 24 - March 1. Different events will include Celebrate Your Body; Eating as a Celebration in the cafeteria.
Monster Trike Races: February 23rd, 2008 Halftime races in both the men and women's basketball games will feature Luther faculty/staff and students in a race for speed and agility. Come watch the fun! Women's basketball game starts at 2:00 pm and men's basketball game begins at 4:00 p.m.
"Crazy in America: the Hidden Tragedy of our Criminalized Mentally Ill" lecture - February 12, 2008.
Co-sponsored with Lectures and Fine Arts; Center for Ethics and Public Life; Central Point of Coordination Office of Winneshiek County, Mary Beth lectured to the Luther community of the criminalization of the mentally ill in a lecture in the CFL as well as social work classes.

Blood Drive - January 18, 2008.
Cosponsored with APO service fraternity. This was a blood drive for the Luther community held in Brunsdale lounge. There will also be a wellness fair. The goal of having the blood drive in the residence halls is to encourage first time givers.
B.O.M.B. (Brandt Open Mic Bar) - January 19, 2008
Co-sponsored with Brandt Hall. This is an open mic contest where students can win cash prizes for the best performance. Mocktails served to the over 500 people that attended last year.
Norsenecks present YAHOO - wellness initiative for faculty/staff
January, 2008. "Families" gather in groups of four. Exercise thirty minutes a day for a roll of the dice. Each 1 1/2 hours is a turn. Best score at the end of the month wins a $40 gas card to each team plus a drawing from all active participants for a major prize.
Building Female Leaders through Sport class - January, 2008
Co-sponsored with NCAA, Luther Athletic Dept. This Sense of Vocation program is comprised of coaches and athletes from each female sport at Luther and met weekly during January. They read three books and discussed the readings as well as utilized the web site of Jeff Jansen's "Team Captains Network". The goal was to come to a better understanding of what it means to be a woman in a sport today and develop the skills necessary to encourage women to fill the leadership roles in the future.
Study Break time - December 7th, 2007
Take a break from studying for those finals and join the wellness floor residents for hot chocolate and cookies in the Oneota Market. 7-9 p.m.
Healthy Back Day: November 21, 2007 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Dahl Centennial Union
Luther employees will be able to enjoy a healthy break as they visit the booths of local massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists as well as learn exercises specifically for a healthy back.
Karaoke Contest - November 18, 2007
Come sing and show off your skills (or lack of) in a fun karaoke night in Marty's. Begins at 7:00 p.m.

Adventure Race: November 3, 2007. 11:00 a.m. start
1-2 hour canoe paddle in the Upper Iowa River, 6-mile bike on gravel, 3-mile trail run as well as mystery challenges along the path.

Human Bowling - November 3, 2007
Watch the lucky Luther students bowl on the track at the half-time of the Luther/Simpson football game. Six-foot bowling pins and a human bowling bowl will make for a hilarious and fun half-time experience.
Dive In Movie - November 3, 2007, 7-9 p.m.
Jump in the pool, lie on an inner tube and enjoy a movie with your friends as you stay cool.
Late Night with Norse Basketball - November 3, 2007, 9 p.m. - 11 p.m.
Sponsored by Making Good Choices and Wellness. Activity is designed to promote the Luther Basketball programs as well as create an alternative activity to alcohol consumption by students. Activities include shooting games, dunk contest, 3-point shooting contest, half court shots as well as the first 200 students to enter receive a free tee shirt.
Halloween Climb - Friday, November 2nd, 2007, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Halloween is too big to be celebrated on a Wednesday night so we are extending the holiday to Friday... Come climb the wall in a costume and be eligible for great prizes. Free candy and lots of spook-tacular climbing activities.
Trick or Treating in the Residence Halls: October 31, 2007
First year floors welcome the children of Luther employees to come trick or treat on their floors between the hours of 4 - 8 pm. Designated floors will be marked with pumpkins at the entrance door. (Resident assistants of these halls will be going out into the community and trick or treating for food that same evening.)
