Headline of the Week: Product Marketing, New Services, Responsiveness, Thank You
Thanks to Jennifer Rian for her service to Luther College and the LIS team for the last four years. She brought positive energy and a willingness to explore and innovate to her work. She shared with us a wonderful combination of skills that included “can do,” creative problem solving and the ability to execute in a very responsive fashion

This Week in LIS - 27 March 2015

Headline of the Week: Newer Territory - High Density Wireless
For many years Luther College has invested in getting broad coverage across the campus for wireless access. We now have wireless capability in classrooms and in other academic and administrative spaces. We have wireless in the residence halls. We have wireless in the cafeteria and in Oneota lounge.

This Week in LIS - 6 March 2015

Headline of the Week: Copyright and Streaming
A recent story shared that ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers), a performing rights organization, reported that it tracked twice as many performances of songs (500 billion) in 2014 as it did in 2013. Streaming music services are part of that growth.

Headline of the Week: Apple Car, Robots and the (Economic) Future
Yesterday we had a visit from our Apple representative, Tom. In LIS we purchase, configure, distribute and support many Apple products for the Luther College community including laptops and tablets used by faculty, staff and, in labs, for students.

A move from the farm to Decorah has provided an opportunity to re-evaluate telecommunication services we leverage. Service alternatives have emerged in recent years, some of which have reached a tipping point leading to changes and hopefully efficiencies. Are there analogous options for Luther College?

This Week in LIS - 13 February 2015

Headline of the Week: College Lectures on Airplanes
Anyone recall the Clooney movie “Up in the Air?” In the movie the character that Clooney plays becomes the youngest frequent flyer to rack up 10 million miles on his favorite airline. Let’s see, at an average of 500 miles per hour, that’s 20,000 hours. At approximately 2,000 work hours per work year that would be about 10 working years seated in an airplane seat.
