Notes from LIS Council - 7/23/14

  • New Items
    • National Educause, September 29-October 2
      • We discussed the merits and impacts of investing in having LIS attendance. We have purchased the digital streaming option in the past and this would likely be something we would want to do again depending on the streamed agenda.
    • Teaser Images, Blog and TWILIS
      • The new website design treats images associated with blog entries differently. If an image is important to the content of the post it requires creating images that are cropped differently.  However, post layout looks fine without images so they are no longer expected. We have a small number of images that we use as “logos” including our org chart, the LIS logo, the wireless logo and the phishing envelop logo. Ryan will recrop the org chart so it can continue to be used for the Blog.
    • Student Participation in Librarian Candidate Presentation
      • We discussed how we could get some students to participate in the librarian candidate presentation on Wednesday, July 30 at 9am given second summer session is behind us.  Andi will talk to LIS supervisors of summer student workers.
    • LIS Council for July 30 Start Time
      • To accommodate interview schedules LIS Council will start at 1:45pm on July 30 and end by 3:00pm.
    • Update on Furniture Give Away
      • Eddy is working with a library that has expressed interest in the furniture we have to give away.
    • Revised Duplication and User Fees for Archives
      • Sasha shared a draft of proposed usage fees that better reflect costs and increased use of scanning and digital delivery. We discussed a number of cases and associated workflows.
