Folks from LIS and Advancement took part in two presentations from vendors this week looking at solutions for document imaging and management. These systems would allow electronic storage, indexing and retrieval of all sorts of business documents, both those that have been digitized from paper or those born digital. The systems we looked at both interface with our Datatel system to allow documents to be attached to records in that system. This research is driven by the ongoing storage pressures in Loyalty for the Advancement office, and the great benefits that a system like this could bring to workflow and accessibility/security of materials. This project is not yet funded, but we hope to identify a preferred solution and work to find a way to implement a product in the not-so-distant future. This same product will undoubtedly be useful in other areas of operations at Luther, most notably Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Financial Services.
