Brief Course Description

In this course, students draw from scholarly work being done in media studies and the sociology of sport in order to examine the important cultural, social, and political roles of sport in contemporary New Zealand society. Students will attend events and will also visit museums, media companies, training locations, and club headquarters in the country. These undertakings, coupled with critique and reflection, will help students understand how sport, as well as mediated sport, can be approached critically and read in different ways.
