Headline of the Week: “The Other Transformation” - A Talk by EDUCAUSE CEO John O'Brien
The
Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC) Board met for its spring face to face meeting in Minneapolis at the end of last week. Although we normally meet in Chicago, we moved our meeting to Minneapolis this time to make it easier to get some quality face to face time with John O’Brien, the recently named CEO for EDUCAUSE who lives in Minneapolis.

ITS Weekly - 24 March 2016

Headline of the Week: MIT Uses Crowdsourcing to Identify Ideas to Reach Carbon Reduction Goals
ITS is interested in energy stewardship and sustainability. One of our team, Matt Hammen, serves on the
Energy and Water Task Group. He has led efforts to implement many ideas to reduce the energy that our lab workstations consume. Jay Uthoff and Adam Forsyth have a proposal coming out of an Alliant Energy audit to improve the energy efficiency of our data center that is working its way through the process for implementation funding.

ITS Weekly - 11 March 2016

Headline of the Week:  Hats Off to the Digital Media Center Team and Welcome Back!
It has been a big week for multimedia! Last weekend the
Oneota Film Festival was held on our campus and our ITS multimedia team invested approximately 150 person hours preparing for and supporting the event including, readying the equipment and the rooms and all the media and digital manipulations of the films to enable great screenings.

This Week in LIS - 26 February 2016

Germano and I were chatting the other day and talking about the LIS restructure into ITS (Information and Technology Services) and Library organizations. We were identifying things that will be the same, things that will be different, and looking for things of concern with consequences we could mitigate with forethought.

This Week in LIS - 19 February 2016

Headline of the Week: LIS Restructured - Long Live the Library and ITS
On February 10th President Carlson and Dean Kraus shared their decision to restructure LIS effective March 1. The library will operate as an independent organization reporting to the Dean. The Dean will (ultimately) select a leader that will be the Head Librarian and Library and Information Studies (LIST) Department Head from the existing team.

This Week in LIS - 05 February 2016

Headline of the Week: KATIE Collaboration with Holly
Although Holly White, our Instructional Technology Librarian, just joined LIS in January, she is already diving in and working with faculty. She joins Christine Moeller, Instructional Design Librarian, to increase our team’s capacity to collaborate with faculty on how to leverage technology for teaching and learning.

This Week in LIS - 29 January 2016

Headline of the Week: Computer Science, Meet Humanities: in New Majors, Opposites Attract
Yesterday’s Chronicle
article on hybrid majors that include both computer science and humanities was surprising to me because it was positioned as “news.” Perhaps the newsworthiness is that the article described a new program at Stanford. This sort of thing where a student studies in one discipline and also in computer science is not a new idea. Interdisciplinary work is encouraged at a liberal arts college like Luther College.

This Week in LIS - 15 January 2016

Headline of the Week:  First Aid Class for Mental Health
This past week 15 folks from LIS (and several others from around campus) attended a class taught by Stu
Johnston to learn how to help someone developing a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis. The training was designed to help us learn to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in others such as our students or colleagues.
