Notes from ITS Council - 11/8/17

  • New Items
    • Olin Laptop Pool
      • Workstation Support met with members of the math department. The current proposal is to provide four upgraded (“supercharged”) Windows laptops for  checkout by students for an hour at a time. This would be similar to calculators the Math department has for checkout today. Timing is start of J-term. Members of EAM and CS are also being contacted for their input.
  • Returning Items
    • 2 Factor for Colleague - Update
      • Dustin Cote and Chris Stuckman are working on setting up ADFS for Colleague Self Service. Adam Forsyth is working on getting some cost estimates.
    • PaaS
      • The team is continuing work towards a specific proposal.
    • Sage
      • Members of User Services team met with the Math department to discuss use of Sage software. They discussed how many licenses might be needed and how access works. We suggested they beginning move worksheets off our hosted server and the need for them to be stored in a place that is durable and recoverable. There was also conversation leading to a review of the requirements for Maple. Target for implementing a new decision is January.

      • CoCalc (Sage replacement, perhaps replacement for Maple too)

      • ALEKS for Math
        • Marcia Gullickson and Diane Gossman to co-start the IT Acquisition process.   
      • Athletic Training Software
        • Marcia Gullickson to start the IT Acquisition process.
      • Emergency Response Team Backup
        • ITS participants for either the ERT, ERT backup or Emergency Support Team are encouraged to schedule time to watch the Incident Command System on-line courses. Notes and links have been sent out.
  • ITS Operational Reports
    • Network & Systems
      • Adam Forsyth out. No report.
    • User Services
      • Paul Mattson shared that the project proposal to update the AV for the Loyalty Boardroom, V206 and Olin 102 are a go.
      • Administrative Rights Separation for Faculty is in progress. Self-service support to increase privileges will be available to all Faculty. The target completion date is Wed., Nov 15.
      • Staff computer refresh conversations continue. Financial Services upgrading out of cycle due to requirements to support document imaging.
      • Meeting to work on remediation are in progress for Spirion Network Share scans.
      • Preparation is underway to support the Luther Wrestling Open Saturday, Nov 11.
      • Tablets for checkout have been purchased (20 Dell Venues)
      • Sophos Central installation is in progress for Book Shop and Phonathon. Then the old server can be turned off.
      • Emergency phone installation and residence hall phone removal is complete for College Apartments with the exception of 610 which is currently on hold pending access to the attic. Work will begin next in Baker Village.
      • Some new LastPass password management accounts are being set up.
