Notes from ITS Council - 7/12/17

  • New Items
    • RAGBRAI through Luther College
      • We discussed what campus services might be utilized and which may need scaling considerations. Diane will reach out to campus organizers for more information so we can consider if any of those plans have dependencies on ITS services.
    • Sophos - Server Advanced Protection
      • Adam led a discussion on some specific security features that might be valuable to us in the Server Advanced level. Diane will see how upgrading to this will relate to our current license.
    • Residence Hall Phones
      • The committee met earlier today and Diane led a conversation at ITS Council on some questions and considerations from that earlier meeting. We discussed how to keep Colleague and the current phone switch and the directory in synch as students request phones and change rooms.  Marcia will explore the directory logic for handling the case of no phone in a room. We talked about plans for communication with faculty and staff and the relationship to the emergency communication system.
  • Returning Items
    • Reeher Implementation
      • Marcia reported that the priority 3 files are prepared and were uploaded to Reeher on Monday night.  Reeher will have the information visible to Development staff by this Friday
  • ITS Operational Reports
    • Network & Systems
      • Adam provided information on the wireless implementation and showed how the new 10Gbps circuits are being utilized. He also shared graphs that show the distribution of wireless protocol being used across the population of devices. He enumerated several work plans for enhancing the speed of the intercampus network (i.e. uplinks) and plans to move one of the DMN routers to the Middle School.

In addition Diane shared a number of pictures from teaching spaces where work is underway this summer.
