Sophos Support Ending May 2013

At the end of May 2013, LIS will no longer support Sophos Anti-Virus on personally owned computers.

This means that faculty, staff, and students will need to remove Sophos and acquire their own anti-virus software to protect their computers.

A list of alternative options, including free anti-virus products, is available at the Anti-Virus Software page. Instructions for removing Sophos, including a Sophos Removal Tool, are available at the Sophos Anti-Virus – Uninstall & Removal page.

Technology Help Desk staff will also be available to assist with the transition away from Sophos. Due to the number of personal computers, we ask that you please attempt the steps in the Sophos Anti-Virus – Uninstall & Removal page before contacting the Help Desk. Our ability to provide support for off-campus computers is limited and a technician may request that you bring your computer to the Help Desk.

On May 1 and May 2 from 4pm to 7pm, additional LIS staff will be on hand at the Technology Help Desk to assist with removing Sophos and re-installing new anti-virus.

This change is being made for a variety of technical reasons and due to the increasing capabilities of free anti-virus products.
Sophos will remain on Luther owned workstations.
