Visitation was Aug. 27, 2017, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Kyle A. Marquard was born on July 1, 1955, in Decorah, Iowa, to Donald Marquard ’56 and Mary (Stoen) Marquard ‘56. Kyle passed away on Aug. 24, 2017, at his home in Greene, surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Kyle spent his childhood in Hampton, graduating from Hampton Community High School in 1973 and from Luther College in 1977. Kyle was a proud member of the Luther football team, joined the student coaching staff, scouted for the team for several years and remained a loyal Norse fan for life. He never missed a Luther vs. Wartburg football game from 1973 onwards and had many dear friends in the Luther community. After graduating from Luther, Kyle began his 33-year career with the Greene Community School District, first as a physical education teacher and coach and later as the guidance counselor. He received his master’s degree from Iowa State University and served as President of the Iowa School Counselors Association. He was a proud member of the Greene Community School staff, and later the North Butler Bearcat family. Kyle was a dedicated educator and was highly esteemed by his students, colleagues and the wider community. He retired from teaching in 2010. Kyle is fondly remembered as an influential coach and was known for his ability to bring the best out of his athletes. Coach Marquard served as head boys track coach, assistant football coach, junior high basketball coach, and junior high football coach. Kyle had a special passion for Track and Field, acting as an intercollegiate and interscholastic starter for nearly 40 years. In 2017, North Butler Schools honored Kyle for his contribution towards the construction of Greene's first track facility and for his longstanding dedication to the sport by naming the boys’ annual home meet the “Kyle Marquard Bearcat Invitational.” Kyle touched the lives of many and provided great memories to all who knew him. Whether it was teaching Drivers Ed, cooking and taste testing BBQs, golfing and fishing with his closest friends or smoking a cigar and telling one of his favorite stories, Kyle brought happiness to those around him. Above all, Kyle was a devoted family man. He married Diane Dixon in 1977 with whom he raised three beautiful daughters. He cherished the many adventures he had with his girls, Amanda, Paige and Molly. He adored being a grandpa and always made time to play with his grandsons. The highlight of Kyle's summers was his week at the lake with his family, fishing with his daughters, telling stories around the campfire and joking with his brothers. Kyle is survived by his three daughters, Amanda (Scott) Eichmeier of Bondurant, Paige (Paul) Marquard of Hong Kong, and Molly Marquard ’11 (Carlos) of Colombia; his three grandsons Preston, Boston and Easton Eichmeier; his mother Mary (Stoen) Marquard ‘56 of Hampton; his friend and former spouse Diane Storey of Greene; his three brothers Jeff (Dawn) Marquard of Hampton, Randy Marquard ‘79 (Kay) of Hudson, and Gary (Mari) Marquard of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; his six nieces Erica, Angela, Mikyla, Rachel, Hillary, and Alexi; and numerous other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Don Marquard ‘56. Kyle was a great man and those lucky enough to have loved and known him will miss him dearly.
