Scandinavian Immigration History display case

Displaying Scandinavian Immigration History

This fall Anna Peterson's Scandinavian immigration history class has included the study of material culture. Early in the semester, they visited a regional cemetery to analyze tombstones. One of the class's later assignments was to communicate a narrative of Scandinavian immigration using objects and images in a display case.

The history faculty have delivered papers this semester at academic conferences around the US and in Canada. We also made up a significant percentage of the Luther College Faculty Research Symposium.

History Alumnus Receives Distinguished Service Award

Luther College President Paula J. Carlson presented Luther's Distinguished Service Award to three alumni Friday, Oct. 10, at the Alumni Dinner and Celebration of Distinguished Service. 

The Distinguished Service Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by the college, is given in recognition of success and achievements in professional fields, service to society, contributions to community, and loyalty and service to Luther.

Students and faculty came together for a meal to celebrate the induction of the 2014-2015 Phi Alpha Theta Members. Phi Alpha Theta is a national honors society for history undergraduates and grad students.

Dr. Eugene Tesdahl, assistant professor of history at UW-Platteville, graduated from Luther College in 2001. He was recently featured in a news item describing his efforts to bring original eighteenth-century documents to his students.
