Re-image Loaner Laptops

Laptops checked out from the Technology Help Desk are re-imaged each time they are returned. This wipes all data and makes sure no information is transferred to the next user. Please be certain to remove any valuable data before returning to the Help Desk.

These instructions apply to Windows computers.

Re-image Help Desk Loaner Laptop with KBOX

  1. Connect a network cable and charger  to the laptop.
  2. Power on and press F12 (Dell) or ESC (HP) to reach the Boot/Startup Menu.
  3. Select Onboard NIC or Network Boot and press Enter.
  4. Select Windows Deployment and Recovery 64 bit and enter the KBOX password.
  5. Once the KBOX menu has loaded, click Imaging.
  6. Click Deploy Image to this machine from the KBOX.
  7. Choose [F/S] Windows 7 64 bit to deploy from the drop down list.
  8. Check Restart Automatically after deployment.
  9. Click Start Deploy
    1. Deploying the image may take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.
    2. After the image has been deployed, the workstation will be rebooted.
  10. When prompted, enter the Workstation Number (i.e. WS1234).
    1. To get the box to enter the WS# hit Alt+Tab
  11. Click OK when Activation of Windows 7 Completes
  12. Reboot.
  13. Double-click joindomain.bat (on the desktop) and press Enter when prompted.
  14. Select Y when asked Will this workstation be used for checkout purposes?
  15. When prompted install the Dell KACE Agent.
  16. Double-click autologin.reg and click Yes.
  17. Install Windows Updates
  18. Disconnect from Ethernet and test Wireless Connection.
  19. Fix the desktop resolution
    1. Right click on the Desktop and select Screen Resolution
    2. In Resolution, set to the highest
    3. Click Apply and then OK.
  20. Reboot.
  21. Place on Managers desk to verify the workstation works before returning to the Circulation Desk.

SSS and SASC Laptop Reimage

  1. Connect a network cable and charger  to the laptop.
  2. Power on and press F12 (Dell) or ESC (HP) to reach the Boot/Startup Menu.

  4. Select Windows Deployment and Recovery 64 bit and enter the KBOX password.
  5. Once the KBOX menu has loaded, click Imaging.
  6. Click Deploy Image to this machine from the KBOX.
  7. Choose [F/S] Windows 7 64 bit to deploy from the drop down list.
  8. Check Restart Automatically after deployment.
  9. Click Start Deploy
