Q3: What are the changes Microsoft made in PowerPoint 2010? What happened to the Office Button?

Switching back from the Office Button of PowerPoint 2007 to the old File menu is just one of the changes Microsoft made in PowerPoint 2010. Some of the other changes and additions include a customizable Ribbon, built-in screen capture and photo/video editing utilities, Paste Preview, Web broadcasting, online video embedding, expanded video export capability, and online Web App functionality. Q4: How can I change the default working folder in PowerPoint?

To set the default file location in PowerPoint,

  • Click the File menu
  • Click Options in the bottom right
  • Click Save on the left side
  • Under Save presentations, type the path in the Default file location box.

This only sets the default for PowerPoint. You follow similar steps to set the default location in Excel and the other applications in the Office suite.

Q5: When working with themes in Office 2010 and deciding which theme colors to use, how do you know what the theme colors show?

When you click Colors in the Themes group, the colors that you see next to the theme name represent the accent and hyperlink colors for that theme. If you change any of these colors to create your own set of theme colors, the colors that are shown on the Colors button and next to the Theme name will be updated accordingly. Q6: Is it possible to create a PowerPoint presentation with presenter notes and then save the presentation such that participants can view the presentation, but not the instructor notes?

Yes. After creating your presentation, click the File menu, and then click Save & Send. On this window, select type Save to Web, then sign into Windows Live. For more information, search for “publish” within PowerPoint help.

Q7: Is it possible to post a PowerPoint presentation to the web such that it can only be accessed by those with a Luther Norse Key?

It is not possible within PowerPoint itself. It can be done on the web page itself, or by using Norse Docs. To use Norse Docs, either upload your PowerPoint presentation or create a new presentation using Norse Docs. Then, on the right side of the window click on the down arrow next to Share, click onPublish/embed and check Viewers must sign in with a Luther College Norse Apps account to view the published document. Once you click the Publish document button, the URL for the presentation will be provided.

Q8: How can I blank out a screen (without switching off the LCD Projector) during a Powerpoint presentation?

  • Press B – Blanks your presentation with a black screen. Press B again to return.
  • Press W – Blanks your presentation with a white screen. Press W again to return.
