Network Storage - Windows Vista

This guide will help you access your personal H drive network storage space and the academic T drive. There are multiple methods to connect to the network file servers.

Faculty and Staff familiar with Adding a Network Place may find instructions at LIST Network Shares.

Note – H and T drives are no longer available from off campus via this method

Create a Network Place

1. Click Start and select Computer.

2. Right Click in a blank space and select Add Network Location.

3. Click Next. Click Choose a custom network location and click Next.

4. In Internet address or network location, type the path for your share.

H Drive

  • Students: \\students.luther.edu\username
  • Faculty: \\academic.luther.edu\username
  • Staff: \\admin1.luther.edu\username

Network Shares

  • Faculty: \\academic.luther.edu\sharename
  • Staff: \\admin1.luther.edu\sharename

5. Click Next two times and then Finish.

6. Enter your Norse Key if prompted.

7. Your network place will appear under Computer in the Network Location section.

Map a Network Drive (Drive Letter)

1. Click Start and select Computer.

2. Click Map Network Drive.

3. Change Drive to H: for your Personal Storage or select another letter for another network share.

4. In Folder, type in the path for your share.

H Drive

  • Students: \\students.luther.edu\username
  • Faculty: \\academic.luther.edu\username
  • Staff: \\admin1.luther.edu\username

Network Shares

  • Faculty: \\academic.luther.edu\sharename
  • Staff: \\admin1.luther.edu\sharename

5. Enter your Norse Key when prompted.

NOTE – If you are using a computer with a login different than your Norse Key, you will need to click Connect using a different username and enter your Norse Key. This normally applies only to personal computers.

6. Your drive will appear under Computer in the Network Location section.

7. To disconnect, Right Click on the drive and select Disconnect.
