Technology Help Desk Work Study Application

Overview

The Technology Help Desk seeks aspiring information professionals with a passion and interest for helping people with computing problems and the technical skills to resolve them in a timely and effective manner. If you have an interest in working with us, please complete an application. We’ll help determine whether we have any openings that fit your skills and interest.

You do not need to be a CS or MIS major to work at the Help Desk! We do no programming. What is required is to have a high level of interest and higher than average knowledge of computer hardware and software. Audio Visual experience is also useful.

Most importantly, applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, including good oral and written communication. We also want to see a demonstrated ability to adapt and learn quickly on the job.

Position Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hardware support and maintenance
  • Software installation and configuration
  • Equipment delivery
  • Classroom technology support – Audio-Visual equipment
  • Routine lab maintenance and stocking
  • Support new ResNet users
  • Troubleshoot ResNet problems
  • No study time while on duty expected
  • One (1) week of training before Fall semester required (room, board, and hourly pay provided)

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Comfortable with computer related technology
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts
  • Ability to teach in one-on-one situations
  • Comfortable working with students, faculty, and staff
  • Available for at least 2 hour shifts
  • Desire to gain work experience rather than study time
  • Second semester First-Year and Sophomore students preferred
