Android: Samsung Fascinate Basics Training

This is a guide to using a Samsung Fascinate with the Android operating system on Luther College services such as Norse Mail and Norse Calendar.

Get Started Using your Samsung Fascinate

For an introduction to your Samsung Fascinate, review the user guide that you received when you purchased your Samsung Fascinate. You can also go to Samsung Fascinate

Set up Norse Mail on your Samsung Fascinate

  1. From the home screen tap Applications to open the applications list, then tap Email
  2. Enter your Email address and password, then tap Next.
  3. If your account has configured successfully, you will see a confirmation screen. Simply add a name for this account and the name you want displayed on outgoing messages and then tap Done.
  4. You will be taken to your email inbox and your messages will start appearing. Tap Menu, and then Account Settings. Adjust your email schedule and any notification settings.
    • If you are prompted to select the type of account, select IMAP account with server address imap.gmail.com and Port 993.

Set up Norse Calendar on your Samsung Fascinate

  1. Tap the Menu button (bottom left corner) to open your phone options.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Select Accounts & Sync.
  4. Scroll down to the Manage Accounts section and select your Luther email account.
  5. To sync your calendar check the box next to Sync calendar. Sync will automatically begin.
  • To change which calendars are viewed on your phone, click the Applications button and find Calendar. Once in calendar, click the menu button to get to Settings. The calendar can be customized within this menu.

Adding a signature

To add a signature to your email account, select the Menu button while in your email to get to Settings. Once in settings you can set the signature by selecting Signature at the top of the screen.

Settings

Settings is where you change how your Samsung Fascinate functions. We encourage you to poke around and try things. Among the favorites:

  • Sound & display – Here you can adjust vibrate options, sound options, change ring tones, adjust screen brightness and timing, and also adjust power saving options.
  • About phone – Where software updates can be found as well as information on the phone.
