Judy Craft, Jerry Johnson receive Staff Excellence Awards

Luther College President Richard Torgerson has announced that staff members Judy Craft and Jerry Johnson are the recipients of Luther Staff Excellence Awards for 2010. Craft and Johnson were recognized at the annual Staff Appreciation Day on Aug. 11.

Alumna Christine Meling '10 awarded Clinton Global Initiative University grant

Luther alumna Christine Meling '10 has been awarded a Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) Outstanding Commitment Award grant for $5,000 to fund her commitment titled "Sewing for the Next Generation." Meling will oversee the production of school uniforms for families that can't afford them in the village of Yari, Boma, in southern Sudan.

Student, professor team to start gardening program at elder care center

Gardening has healing powers. Residents of a Decorah care center experienced those healing powers when they participated in a 12-week gardening project designed and conducted this summer by Stephanie Travers, Luther College assistant professor of psychology, and her summer research student, Mitchell Demers, a senior psychology and health major from Rice Lake, Wis.
