Luther College presents book, DVD signings during homecoming

The Luther College Book Shop will host book signing sessions Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5, as part of Luther's homecoming weekend of events. Luther alumna Callista Gingrich, class of 1988; Richard Simon Hanson, Luther professor emeritus of religion and class of 1953; Douglas Knick, Luther professor; Carson Ode, class of 1963; and Steven Nelson, on behalf of his late wife, class of 1970, will sign copies of their books and DVDs in Luther's Book Shop located in the Dahl Centennial Union on Luther's campus.

Luther Professor Toussaint quoted in Today.com

Luther Associate Professor of Psychology Louren Toussaint was quoted July 19 in a Today.com article, "How do you forgive a killer? A mother moves past tragedy." Toussaint's research focuses on understanding religious and spiritual factors, especially forgiveness, and how they are related to mental and physical health and well-being. "Those who forgive really understand their own 'humanness,'" he told Today.com.

Luther College receives $2,000 grant

Luther College received a grant of $2,000 from the American Legion of Iowa Foundation

Luther College received a grant of $2,000 from the American Legion of Iowa Foundation in support of scholarships for veterans.  Foundation representative Ivan Torkelson (right) presented the grant check to Keith Christensen, vice president for development, and Jeanie Lovell, director of corporate and foundation relations.  The American Legion of Iowa Foundation scholarships help address the growing need for support of veterans currently serving or returning from recent service.  Luther has nearly 1,350 alumni veterans, 530 of whom are living alumni.

Luther's ‘Music in the Shape of a Pear’ concert series features music from 1973

The “Music in the Shape of a Pear” concert begins at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 in the Noble Recital Hall featuring concert music by several artists as well as popular music from 1973 by Pink Floyd, Marvin Gaye, ZZ Top and others. Luther composition instructors Brooke Joyce and Steve Smith, co-curators of the concert, were both born in 1973, so the concert serves as a 40th birthday celebration for them.
