Luther College offers Christmas at Luther Visit Event

Luther College is hosting a Christmas at Luther Visit Event on Thursday, Nov. 30, for high school seniors interested in participating in music at Luther. The admissions event culminates in the evening's "Christmas at Luther" performance. Held in the Center for Faith and Life, the musical celebration features Luther's six choirs, Luther Ringers and the Symphony Orchestra.

Luther College Chamber Orchestra Concert Nov. 16

Luther College Chamber Orchestra will present a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Thomanerchor Leipzig

Center Stage Series: Thomanerchor Leipzig to perform at Luther College Nov. 18

The community is invited for the rare opportunity to hear Thomanerchor Leipzig, the St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig once directed by J. S. Bach, as part of Luther College's Center Stage Series. Established in 1212, representing more than 800 years of musical tradition, the iconic Thomanerchor Leipzig will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, in Luther's Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The concert is part of the choir's larger tour celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

'The White Helmets'

Known as the White Helmets, a group of volunteers have spent years risking their lives to help aid the victims of the Syrian civil war. In honor of International Education Week Nov. 13-17, Luther College will screen the 2016 Netflix documentary "The White Helmets" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Valders Hall of Science Room 206 on the Luther campus.

Ethnic notions

'Ethnic Notions'

The "Uncle Tom," the "Mammy" and the "pickaninnies" are all racial stereotypes commonly used from the pre-Civil War era until the start of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. The Emmy-winning documentary "Ethnic Notions" directed by the late Marlon Riggs examines these and more anti-Black stereotypes that permeated popular culture and were perpetuated by mass media.

As technology develops, so too does the use of digital medicine and personalizing care. Luther College alumnus Steve Demuth, chief technology officer and head of the office of IT strategy and architecture at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, will present "Digital Medicine: Why Doctors and Computer Scientists Increasingly Need Each Other," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in the Franklin W. Olin Room 102 on the Luther campus.
