Luther College presents 'Highway 57'

Dance performance conceived, choreographed and directed by Blake Nellis

"Highway 57," an original dance work by Blake Nellis, Luther College alumnus and visiting teaching associate in dance, will be performed May 2-3 and 8-10 in the Jewel Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the Luther campus.

Show times are 1:30 p.m. May 3 and 10, and 7:30 p.m. May 2-3 and 8-9.

Tickets for the performances are available online through the Luther College Ticket Office, https://tickets.luther.edu/Online/default.asp.

"Highway 57," conceived, choreographed and directed by Nellis, is inspired by Edgar Lee Masters' "Spoon River Anthology." Nellis wants the performance to do more than demonstrate or narrate. He hopes the performance will remind, inspire, delight and challenge audiences. According to Nellis, the audience along with the cast and crew "will take a trip, so to speak, exploring things we're afraid of: betrayal, loneliness, death and speeding tickets."

The music for "Highway 57" was composed by Luther alumni Ted Moore, Justin Nellis and Jon Ailabouni, also Luther adjunct faculty in music. Performing live are Ailabouni, John Griesheimer, Luther student; Luther first-years Jared Oelke and Trevor Brandt; and Luther sophomores Ramsey Jones and Patrick Pauloski.

"Highway 57" will be performed by Luther student Matthew Andreas, Luther first-year Marah Owecke, Luther sophomores Pablo Lopez Alonso, Taylor Berg, Deveny Miles, Jenna Nelson and Christie Owens, Luther juniors Catherine Lewis, James Mueller and Bethany Seavers Templeton, and Luther seniors Josh Dale, Megan Gress, Sarah Matthiesen, David Mendez, Travis Nietert, Chelsey O'Connor, Colleen Oster, Jennifer Schmidt and Holly Williams.

The crew includes Holly Fusco, Luther senior, stage manager; Ben Moore, Luther class of 2002, assistant professor of art, set design; Tom Berger, Luther theatre and dance technical director, light design; Lisa Lantz, Luther associate professor of theatre, costume design; Miriam Harries, Luther senior, light board operator; and Abbey Syme, Luther junior, costume and makeup artist.
