Luther College invites you to the colorful, musical performance of "Dream Carver" by Swazzle, a 45-minute bilingual puppet show.
"Dream Carver" will be performed at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall.
"Dream Carver" is part of Luther College's 2013-14 School Matinee Performance Series. The performance is sponsored by the Winneshiek Medical Center and the Mayo Clinic Health System.
Tickets are just $2 for all ages. Community members are welcome as space is available; area schools have seating priority for school matinees. Great seats are still available.
Based on a book written by Diana Cohn and illustrated by Amy Cordova, "Dream Carver" tells the story of Mateo, a young boy growing up in Oaxaca, Mexico, whose father teaches him the traditional way to carve his own wooden toys. One day, Mateo dreams of fantastic, brightly colored animals and is impelled to bring them to life with a new carving style.
Although mastering a new style is difficult and his father does not support his creative endeavor, Mateo has his heart set on creating the animals from his dreams.
Through Mateo's story, children of grades K-12 can learn the importance of creativity, perseverance and trying new things. "Dream Carver" also has curriculum connections to world language, multicultural history and family relationships.
