Luther College presents a guest recital by Rodolfo Nieto Sept. 25

Luther alumnus Rodolfo Nieto will perform a bass-baritone recital at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on Luther's campus.

Following the performance, Nieto will speak about his experiences as an emerging professional opera singer and will take questions from the audience. The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Nieto will perform several pieces, including "Heimliche Aufforderung" by Robert Strauss; three songs from "Winterreise," "Der Wegweiser," "Das Wirtshaus" and "Mut"; four selected French songs, "L'Anguille" by Francis Poulenc, "Ici-bas" by Gabriel Faure, "Danse Macabre" by Camille Saint-Saens and "Les Mains" by Jules Massenet; as well as "Dalle stanze ove Lucia" from the opera "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Gaetano Donizetti. Assisting Nieto during the performance will be Jessica Paul, Luther professor of music.

A 2004 graduate of Luther, Nieto has sung with several opera companies, including the Minnesota Opera. While at Luther, Nieto was a voice student of David Judisch, Luther professor emeritus of music. He also coached with Paul.

Current students with similar career aspirations in opera will gain a unique perspective after the performance, when Nieto speaks about his current success and challenges he has encountered.
