Odalis Valdivieso, artist and curator, will present "New Photography" 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 in Room 203 of the Center for the Arts on the Luther College Campus.
The lecture is open to the public with no charge of admission.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Valdivieso is an artist who questions conventional assumptions of the limitations of photography. Her recent works focus on the intersection of urban landscapes and abstract spatial relationships. Her current system isolates the photographic moment and the physical materiality of a photograph.
She currently lives in Coconut Grove, Fla., and travels to give lectures and present her art in various shows.
In 2011 her artwork was displayed in two solo shows in Europe: "Off Limits" in Madrid, and "Cloître Des Billettes" in Paris. She is also a winner of the South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant in 2004.
She is currently part of the project "The Nightclub", an art project that includes artists and cultural producers in a one-night art venue.
Valdivieso's visit is sponsored by Luther's Art Department.
