Luther College Jazz Orchestra and Vocal Jazz ensembles return from spring tour

Luther College Jazz Orchestra and Vocal Jazz ensembles recently returned from their spring tour to Brazil.

The ensembles performed May 25-June 3 at venues in Paraná, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Juan Tony Guzmán, Luther associate professor of music, conducts the Jazz Orchestra.

The repertoire of the Jazz Orchestra ranges from early jazz to contemporary compositions and arrangements.

Guzmán is a conductor, composer, arranger and music educator from the Dominican Republic, and currently director of the jazz program at Luther.

Tom Bourcier, Luther instructor in music, directs the Vocal Jazz ensemble.

Bourcier teaches improvisation, jazz theory and arranging, supervises jazz combos, and directs Luther's Jazz Band and Jazz Quintet.
