Area women of all ages will have an opportunity to learn more about financial management, retirement and estate planning, and charitable giving at the sixth annual Women, Faith, and Finance event on Friday, April 9.
Hosted by Luther College, the one-day educational seminar will be presented 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Hotel Winneshiek in Decorah. The program is open to the public and kicks off a full schedule of festivities for Decorah’s annual Women’s Weekend Out.
Keynote speaker for the 2010 Women, Faith, and Finance seminar will be Jenny Norris Peterson, a philanthropic advisor for Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. Her presentation, “Women’s Philanthropy: A Heart and Soul Story of Generosity,” will blend personal stories with the most current research to inspire and motivate women to embrace the role of philanthropy.
With more than 20 years experience as a development and communications professional, keynote speaker Peterson’s focus is helping women see the power they have to change the world through strategic giving. In her role as philanthropic advisor at Luther Seminary, she helps women and men reflect on their deepest values and act on them through charitable giving.
The program will also include concurrent sessions led by area professionals on topics such as college savings strategies, life planning tools, investing, and budgeting. The event will conclude with a presentation addressing local and national impact of the current economy.
The annual Women, Faith, and Finance event is sponsored by Luther College and local partners, including Aase Haugen Homes, Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, Decorah Lutheran Church, and Glenwood Lutheran Church. Grant support from the Arlin Falck Foundation, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and Winneshiek County Community Foundation, along with sponsorships by Lifetime Financial Solutions and Wipfli Hewins Investment Advisors, is helping to underwrite the event.
Total cost is $25, which includes resource materials, continental breakfast, and lunch. Deadline for registration is Thursday, April 1.
Participants who sign up with a friend or family member will each save $5 off the registration fee. In addition, the first 75 women to register will receive a complimentary copy of The Power of Giving: How Giving Back Enriches Us All, a $14 value.
