Luther College students Brenden Driscoll, Bianca Lutchen and Keagan Meyer have been awarded scholarships that will support their study-abroad experiences in Münster, Germany, during spring 2010.

Lutchen, of Northfield, Minn., was awarded the Ingeborg Goessl Study Abroad Scholarship.  This is the first time that this new Luther scholarship has been awarded.

The Goessl scholarship, named after Luther alumna and German professor Ingeborg (Bader) Goessel, supports students who want to study abroad, with preference given to students with a German major or minor or those wishing to study in a German-speaking country. Lutchen received the scholarship because of her achievements in and her dedication to the study of German.

Driscoll, of Chatfield, Minn., and Meyer, of Arlington, Iowa, have been awarded the Barbara Bahe Endowed Scholarship. The Bahe scholarship, implemented in 1989, is awarded to Luther students who want to study in a German-speaking country. The scholarship is named after the late Barbara Bahe, a longtime professor of German at Luther College.

Driscoll, Lutchen and Meyer will study in the Luther College Münster Semester program. One of Luther’s oldest study abroad programs, the Münster Program provides the opportunity for 10 to 15 students to stay with German families in Münster, Germany, every other year during the spring semester.

During the semester, students take language courses as well as general education requirements, including a course dealing with intellectual, historical and ethical issues. As part of the course, students are encouraged to visit important museums, historical sites and to travel in Germany and Europe.
