Gereon Kopf, associate professor of religion at Luther College, will present “Neither Good nor Evil: Zen Approaches to Ethics,” a Religion Forum Lecture on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in Olin 102.
The lecture is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Kopf’s lecture is based on a report of research he conducted in Hong Kong for the 2008-09 academic year.
The talk adds to the discussion on ethical approaches to ethics at Luther. In his lecture, Kopf will introduce a variety of ethical approaches the Zen Buddhist tradition has to offer.
Kopf will discuss some aspects of Buddhist philosophy and talk about the benefits of cross-cultural encounters and engaging in interfaith dialogue.
Kopf holds the bachelor of arts degree from Eberhard Karls Universitaet and the master of the arts and doctoral degrees from Temple University.
Kopf specializes in Zen Buddhist philosophy and the courses he teaches at Luther include “Religions of South Asia,” “Religions of East Asia” and “Buddhism in Japan.”
