The Reduced Shakespeare Company, an internationally acclaimed touring company, will present the "Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" at Luther in the Center for Faith and Life Saturday, Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.
The performance is part of Luther’s Center Stage Series of professional performing arts events for the 2009-10 year.
Tickets for the performance by the Reduced Shakespeare Company will be available at the Luther Box Office (http://boxoffice.luther.edu) on Thursday Sept. 10. Box Office hours are 9-10:30 a.m., 11-3 p.m. on weekdays; open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays.
Tickets may also be purchased online at http://centerstage.luther.edu beginning Sept. 10. Tickets are priced at $23, $21 for seniors age 65 and over and $15 for youths 4-18.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company is a three-man comedy troupe widely known for taking long, serious subjects and reducing them into short, sharp comedies.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company will perform their slapstick comedy “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged),” a play in which they perform all of Shakespeare’s 37 plays in 97 minutes. Running for nine years in the Criterion Theatre in London’s West end, it became the U.K.’s longest running comedy.
Founded in 1981, the Reduced Shakespeare Company has created six stage shows along with numerous television and radio programs and pieces which include “The Complete History of America (Abridged)” and “The Bible: The Complete Word of God (Abridged).” The company’s humorous shows have taken them to venues such as the White House, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, American Repertory Theatre and Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival.
Their worldwide travels include performances in Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Malta, Belgium, The Netherlands, Singapore and Bermuda. The company is also famous for many university performances throughout the United States, Great Britain and Ireland.
The Reduced Shakespeare Company has appeared on shows such as NBC’s “Today Show,” “CBS Sunday Morning,” “Entertainment Tonight,” CNN’s “Showbiz This Week” and participated in New Zealand’s “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.”
They also wrote and starred in “The Ring Reduced” for Channel 4 (UK) and “Shakespeare (Abridged)” which aired on PBS. The Reduced Shakespeare Company has also been featured on National Public Radio programs such as “All Things Considered,” “Weekend Edition” and “Talk of the Nation.”
Reduced Shakespeare Company scripts have been published in the United States and the United Kingdom and have been translated into more than a dozen languages. Broadway Play Publishing publishes their plays. The company was nominated for an Oliver Award in London and two Helen Hayes awards in Washington, D.C.
Upcoming performers in the Luther College 2009-10 Center Stage Series include Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble on Tuesday, Oct. 6 and Irving Berlin Musical Revue “I Love a Piano” on Friday, Oct. 23.
