Kent Finanger to receive Spirit of Luther Award

Luther College President Richard Torgerson will present the college's Spirit of Luther Award to longtime Luther coach and professor Kent Finanger at the school's opening convocation Thursday, Aug. 30 at 9:40 a.m. in the Center for Faith and Life. The service is open to the public with no charge for admission. Finanger, a 1954 Luther graduate, is being honored for his commitment to, love of and support for Luther College and the Decorah community.

Luther College enters era of change in a position of strength

Luther College is strong at the start of this 2012-13 academic year Luther President Richard Torgerson said in his annual state of the college address Aug. 23, but in this era of change and challenge in higher education Luther will have to seek creative solutions to maintain its stability and preserve its character as a traditional liberal arts college of the church.

U.S. Energy Department launches "Clean Energy in Our Community" video series

Today, the U.S. Energy Department launched the "Clean Energy in Our Community" video series, which will feature small communities throughout the country that are striving to become more sustainable, are investing in the green economy, and are bringing the benefits of clean energy to local residents and workers.  The Energy Department kicked off the series with a video from Luther College that highlights how Decorah, Iowa is benefiting from the projects undertaken by the college to reduce their energy consumption and deploy clean, renewable energy projects campus-wide.

Luther College $1.2 million Solar Energy Field Nears Completion

Luther College's new $1.2 million solar energy field is nearing completion says Steven Peters, president of Dragonfly Solar, the company constructing the array of solar panels which will be the largest single solar energy production facility in the state of Iowa when it goes online in early July.
