Physical Education Scholarships
The following list indicates the scholarships designated for the study of Health and Physical Education and the conditions of eligibility. Recipients of these scholarships are selected by the faculty and the student financial aid office.
The Lyle B. and Evelyn E. Beaver Scholarship, to be awarded to qualified students who can show evidence of need for financial assistance with preference given for students interested in recreation.
The James Beile Memorial Scholarship, to be awarded to students with good scholastic records.
The Junior Bickle Scholarship, established by Selma Hougan of Stoughton, Wisconsin, in memory of her son Junior Bickle ’41, to be awarded to students with good scholastic records.
The Lucia H. and Kent E. Finanger Scholarship, established by family and friends in memory of Lucia Finanger to be awarded to junior or senior students majoring in health or physical education, with preference given to students planning to teach and coach.
The Jay and Kay McGrew Endowed Scholarship, established in honor of Jay and Kay McGrew on their retirement to recognize their distinguished service to Luther College as professors and coaches, to be awarded to students majoring in health and physical education.
The Dr. Stanley T. F. Moen Scholarship, established by Dr. Stanley T. F. Moen, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to be awarded to worthy students having financial need.
The Hamlet E. and Thelma Peterson Scholarship, established in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Hamlet E. Peterson, to be awarded for use in the senior year to students who exhibit superior scholastic ability, leadership, and Christian principles. “Coach Pete” coached football, basketball, baseball, and track at Luther College for more than four decades.
