The Olejniczak household could easily be divided when it comes to its loyalties, but Kristen (Kollmorgen) ’88 and Lon have a lot of practice in teamwork. In addition to sharing family and home duties, they are both executives at Transamerica Capital, a division of AEGON USA in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Having grown up in Decorah, Lon went on to the University of Iowa to become a standout two-sport athlete. While he didn’t go to Luther, he has an emotional investment in Luther College which stems from growing up in Decorah and serving as assistant Norse football coach from 1984–88.
“I grew up in a sports family, and I have a great appreciation for athletes and coaches,” says Lon. “When I coached under Bob Naslund ’65, I developed many lifelong friendships with staff and players.”
The Olejniczak’s investments in Luther, the University of Iowa and their community are a natural extension of their focus on fostering winning athletes and coaches. In addition to their support of the University of Iowa Carver Hawkeye Arena Expansion and the Decorah Community School’s baseball field renovation project, the Olejniczak’s were early members of Luther’s Norse Athletic Association.
Their investment in both the Annual Fund and NAA allowed Kristen and Lon to fulfill their personal goals while adding value to Luther. “We believe in athletics at Luther, where we know the focus is on both academic rigor and athletic excellence,” Kristen notes.
