Ashley's Adventures

My goal with this blog is to provide regular updates and information about the Münster Semester 2012. It is intended for parents, fellow students, friends, etc. It is written mostly by Elizabeth Steding, Assistant Professor of German and Münster 2012 program leader. This is my first time leading the Münster program, and I am very excited to be spending this time in Germany with students.

During the 12 days of Spring Break, I was able to visit 3 different countries.  I started off my journey flying to London where I stayed for several days.  I did all the visited all the sights and experienced the sounds of such a bustling metropolis.  I was so glad my mom was able to join me for this portion of the trip.  The days that I was in London I saw so many amazing things!  I was able to ride the London Eye, visit the Tower of London where the Crown Jewels are held, and manage to meet and dazzle Prince Harry with my charming wits.  Okay unfortunately that last part didn't happen but that would have been really cool.  The highlight of my trip to London included a back stage tour of the National Theatre in London.  They were one of the first theater's to produce War Horse on stage.  Seeing the puppet used to portray Joey, the main character, was very exciting.  As a Theatre Management major, even the nerdy financial things that were talked about I found incredibly interesting.

After my time in London, I took the Eurostar to Paris, where I also spent time with my mom.  I was only in Paris for 1 whole day, so everything that one must do in Paris must be done before leaving.  I saw everything, including the famous Mona Lisa!  She was smaller than I had imagined her, but just as beautiful.  My favorite painting at the Louvre Museum was a painting by Lucas Cranach, who we as a group learned a great deal about in Wittenberg.  Paris was a very interesting city but not my favorite from the whole trip.

After spending a busy day in Paris, I boarded yet another train bound for Bern, Switzerland.  I was so excited to get to Switzerland and to see the Alps. Unfortunately the day I was in Bern, it was Good Friday and everything was closed and also raining, so no Alps could be seen.  Thankfully I got to see them a few days later in Zuerich.  They were absolutely to most stunning mountains I had ever seen in my entire life!  Just like I had pictured.  I was so glad that my new friends I had met the day before were there to experience it too!  And then to top it off, we spent the afternoon enjoying a Swiss Natural Spa followed by the Swiss delicacy-Swiss Fondue.

Spring Break this year was definitely one that I won't soon forget.  I learned so much and met some really awesome new friends!  But the semester isn't over yet!  So many more adventures to come!
