Travis Head

Travis Head is an assistant professor at Virginia Tech’s School of Visual Art in Blacksburg, VA. He earned his BA in studio art from the University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA, and his MA and MFA degrees in painting and drawing from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he was the recipient of a Teaching Fellowship and the Mildred Pelzer Lynch Fellowship. He makes drawings primarily rooted in the notion of souvenir. His works commemorate actual lived experiences and those that might be better described as virtual, in equal measure. His work is included in the Drawing Center’s Viewing Program and his drawings and artist’s books have been exhibited throughout the United States. His collective, The Fylfot Fellows Correspondence Club, has exhibited nationally, as well as in Norway and Qatar. He has had residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Vermont Studio Center, the Yaddo artist community in New York State, and the Kunstnarhuset Messen in Norway. His work has been discussed in The Washington Post and reproduced in Syracuse University’s journal Stone Canoe, as well as Manifest’s International Drawing Annual 7.
