Assistant Professor of French

What were your first impressions when you came to Luther College?

When I joined Luther’s French Program in 2006, I felt like I was coming home in more ways than one. While I come from Brittany, France, I also grew up in a smaller town and immediately felt comfortable in Decorah. Iowa has since become my adopted home, but I still very much enjoy going back to Brittany, often with J-term student groups.

How do you make studying French fun?

Shortly after coming to Luther, I created the Luther College French Drama Club which stages, each year, a French play (Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, Le Petit Prince, Antigone…) – a great way for students to practice French in a less “formal” context.

What are your research interests?

  • Early Modern and Enlightenment French literature
  • Sub-Saharan Francophone women writers
  • Intersections between literature and music (particularly opera)
