Additional Scholarships

Erdman Prize Competition

The Luther College Department of Economics and Business along with the Financial Aid Office would like to invite student entrepreneurs to apply for the Erdman Prize Competition.  Applicants will be required to prepare a portfolio describing their business venture in detail.  Prizes include (1) $5,000 award and (2) $2,500 awards.  Applications must be submitted by February 29, 2012.

Margaret Short Memorial Scholaship

The Waterloo Leisure Services Commission is awarding a $750 scholarships to an outstanding Black Hawk County, Iowa student who will be full-time in Fall 2012 at a minimum of sophomore standing.  The applicant must have a declared major in Leisure Services or a related field.  Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office.  Applications must be submitted by April 6, 2012. 

Business and Professional Women of Iowa

The BPW/Iowa Foundation is awarding a $1,000 scholarship to an Iowa resident who is both a US Citizen and Non-traditional student.  The student needs to have completed high school before 3/31/07 and now wants to resume their education in order to re-enter the workforce.  Applicants must demontrate financial need and have completed at least one year of college with satisfactory academic standing.  Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2012.

Hawkinson Foundation Scholarship

The Vincent Hawkinson Foundation for Peace and Justice is offering scholarships of $4,000 - $5,000 to students who demonstrate a commitment to peace and justice through one or more of the following ways:  specific project, leadership in a peace/justice organization, courageous demonstration of commitment or serving as a role model for others.  Finalists must be available for a personal interview in Minneapolis.  Applications must be submitted by March 15, 2012.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program

The GM Foundation is sponsoring the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program for the 2012-13 academic year.  This program is open to high school seniors and current undergraduates attending a four-year college full-time who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.  Application information can be found at http://www.buickachievers.com/.  Application materials must be submitted by February 29, 2012.

AES Engineers Scholarship

The AES Engineers are offering a $500 scholarship to the student who can best answer an essay question about their future plans and dreams.  This scholarship is open to all majors and essays must be submitted by October 5, 2012.  More information can be found at: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm

Miss Iowa Speedway Scholarship

The Iowa Speedway Foundation is pleased to announce the return of the Miss Iowa Speedway scholarship. This is a $1,500 scholarship for the 2012-2013 school year. Applications are due by Friday, March 23, 2012.

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

A $5,000 scholarship is available to junior and senior students majoring in public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics or business.  The student must be a US or Canadian citizen of minority descent.  Students can obtain more information and apply online at http://www.gfoa.org/ by the February 24, 2012 deadline.

Normanna Lodge #52 of the Sons of Norway

The Normanna Lodge #52 is offering a $2,000 scholarship to a student who has completed at least 2 years of college and intends to enroll in a Norwegian Studies program.  The program can include things such as arts, crafts, history, international studies, language, literature, music, folklore and mythology.  Applicants must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA.  Applications can be requested from the following address and must be postmarked by April 15, 2012:  Secretary - Normanna Lodge #52, Sons of Norway, PO Box 875, Albert Lea, MN  56007.

iHERF Scholarship

The Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation is offering $3,000 scholarships to students in a healthcare career who plan to work in an Iowa hospital after graduation.  Eligible applicants must be within 2 years of graduation in a healthcare career field (including nursing, medical and clinical technology, physical therapist, PA, pharmacist, social worker) and commit to working in an Iowa hospital for one year for each scholarship awarded.  Applications can be downloaded at http://www.iowahospitalscholarships.org/ and must be submitted by March 14, 2012.

Hovland Scholarship

The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation is sponsoring the Hovland Scholarship.  This scholarship is open to students who will be entering their junior year in the fall of 2012. Students must be of Norwegian descent, with preference given to applicants from the Bomlo Community of Norway. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. Award: $1,000; Deadline: July 15.  Applications are available at http://www.sfacf.org/.  

James B. Morris Scholarship Fund

The James B. Morris Scholarship Fund was established in 1978 to provide financial assistance to minority students.  Those eligible to apply must be U.S. citizens, Iowa high school graduates, Iowa residents, and be African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Native American.  Applicants must also have a 2.5 cumulative GPA.  Applications are available online at http://www.morrisscholarship.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=66 and must be submitted by February 15, 2012.

Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation

The Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation is offering several scholarships for students interested in healthcare careers.  Scholarship information and applications are available at www.mgmc.org/foundation.  Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2012.

The Fruit Company® Gift Basket Entrepreneur Award

Roy Webster Memorial Scholarship

Founder of Webster Orchards and Grandfather to owner Scott Webster, Roy Webster was a visionary orchardist, prominent businessman, and a dedicated family man. In honor of his legacy, The Fruit Company® is proud to present the Roy Webster Memorial Scholarship. This $1,000 award is for graduates of Oregon and Washington high schools pursuing degrees from U.S. colleges and universities. Abbott and Fenner Scholarship

The Abbott and Fenner scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as college students.  To apply for these $1,000 scholarships, an essay of 500-1000 words on the following topic needs to be emailed to scholarships@abbottandfenner.com by June 15, 2012.  The topic is:  "What was the most difficult time in your life and why?  How did your perspective on life change as a result of this difficulty?"

Big Sun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is offering a $500 scholarship to a deserving student.  All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of the sport in which they are participating.  The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community.  Please visit http://www.bigsunathletics.com/ for application information.  Deadline is June 22, 2012.      

Iowa Student Loan Teacher Grants

The Iowa Student Loan® Teacher Career Establishment Grant helps new classroom teachers contracted to teach in Iowa's subject shortage areas.
