Luther fell to 1-1 in the Iowa Conference and 2-3 overall after being defeated by University of Dubuque 56-20 this afternoon in Dubuque.The Spartans remain undefeated in the IIAC at 2-0, 3-2 overall.
The Spartans offense racked up 449 yards of total offense and scored eight of the 10 times they had the football.
Luther tallied 308 yards of total offense with 253 coming on the ground. The Norse put together three long drives and had possession of the football 33:13 to the Spartans 26:29. Luther's three scoring drives included 75 yards on 15 plays in the first quarter, 79 yards on 13 plays in the second and 79 yards on 17 plays midway through the fourth.
Neither team could stop the other in the red zone. Dubuque scored all six times it was in the red zone and Luther scored all three times.
JJ Sirios rushed for 111 yards on 23 carries and one touchdown. Josh Vos tallied 58 yards on 14 carries and also had a touchdown. Luther's third touchdown was a 15-yard completion from Sirios to Tim Ostby late in the second quarter.
Aric Elton was credited with 11 tackles and was followed by Matt Larson with eight and Rich Vickers with seven.
Luther will host Wartburg College one week from today. Kick-off will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Carlson Stadium.
